On the front of the American Gold Buffalo the portrait of an Indian with feather headdress and the inscription "Liberty" is shown. It is a historical motif designed by the sculptor James Earle Fraser (November 4, 1876 - October 11, 1953). Fraser was one of the most famous American sculptors of the first half of the 20th century. The motif goes back to 5-cent course coins from 1913, which were then known as "Buffalo nickel". A mintmark can be seen under the year.

This name is derived from the back. Here you can see a standing North American buffalo. Also represented are the inscriptions "In God we trust", "E Pluribus Unum" and "United States of America", which have been on all coins and banknotes in the USA since 1908. The coarse plasticity of the motif, which differs significantly from other modern bullion coins, is particularly impressive. Also at the bottom is the official face value of $ 50, the fineness (1 oz) and the fineness (.9999 gold).
